Starting on the 19th of this month, the French Air Force started to launch its own air strikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). A second operation was carried out today after the death of a French civilian in the Middle East, according to News Tomato.
The French military forces launched their first air strike after a French mountaineer was killed by militants in Northern Africa, and the government decided that they firstly support the U.S. and their military operations in Iraq and bombed an Islamic State armory in northeastern Iraq.
Jean Le Drian, France's Minister of Defense announced that their administration is also discussing whether to extend their air strikes to Syria also, depending on the progress of the conflict against ISIS.
The international community is on constant alert concerning the situation in not only Iraq and Syria but also North Africa and even within their own borders for fear of ISIS attacks. U.S. President Barrack Obama, in his address at the 67th United Nations General Assembly on the 24th urging all the nations to participate in fighting against these acts of terror.
At the General Assembly, the president stated that, "It is no exaggeration to say that humanity's future depends on us uniting against those who would divide us along fault lines of tribe or sect; race or religion." He added t that "This is not simply a matter of words. Collectively, we must take concrete steps to address the danger posed by religiously motivated fanatics, and the trends that fuel their recruitment."
Many nations have already pledged to not only provide humanitarian aid to Iraq and Syria but also to militarily combat the Islamic State along with the U.S. Most recently, the United Kingdom was reported to have joined the U.S. in carrying out airstrikes in Iraq after the militants released a video of a British civilian be executed.
Meanwhile, 10 major Arab nations including Saudi Arabia and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) which also is looking to participate in the attacks from the air. Korea has also pledged cooperation in the fight against terrorism, but whether they will be providing military aid is still up in the air.
