Almost everybody has seen James Gunn' surprise hit movie "Guardians of the Galaxy," so it comes as a huge surprise that "Furious 7" star Kurt Russell, who has just been offered a meaty role for the sequel still has not yet seen the film.

"I literally got a phone call two days ago about this. I've never seen 'Guardians of the Galaxy,'" he admitted during the HappySadConfused podcast. "I don't know anything about it. I'm one of the four idiots that's never seen it. Many times I've heard 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie (with) great characters.' I don't know it."

When Gunn approached him about his possible role as Star Lord's father, Russell asked for some time to think. He wanted to familiarize himself with the franchise first before jumping the gun.

"I didn't realize that the man (James Gunn) had written and directed it. So we talked to each other on the phone and I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read it, and I have to watch the movie because I can't bring anything for you. I've got nothing to offer here.' So, I am amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do," he shared.

For the meantime, Russell can be seen next in Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight," which is due on January 8, 2016. He is also part of the Western horror flick "Bone Tomahawk," which is due out on February 19, 2016.

As for Gunn, the director is refusing to dish out any more spoilers regarding his highly anticipated sequel. As much as he appreciates the excitement fans have over the film, he still wants to surprise them when the movie finally makes its premiere in cinemas.

"All right. From this moment on I'm going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it," he wrote on his Facebook page. "That said, the rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth. I don't know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn't through legitimate sources."

Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2" has been scheduled for release on May 7, 2015.
