A lot of fans are expecting that Thanos, one of the biggest and most formidable villains in the Marvel universe will be gracing the highly anticipated film "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" directed by James Gunn.

Unfortunately for them, their expectations will not pan out. Marvel head Kevin Feige does not like to get fans' hopes up for nothing so he revealed that the villain will not be seen anywhere throughout the "Guardians of the Galaxy" sequel.

"There've been many different incarnations of the Guardians over the years in the comics and we'll catch a glimpse of additions over the course of the movie," he told Empire (according to Comic Book Movie).

Feige did not specify who the main villain will be for the sequel. What he did confirm was that it will not be Thanos.

"I wouldn't look too hard in that movie for Thanos," he said, but quickly added that the super villain will be making an appearance in other Marvel flicks. "The next time we see Thanos he will not be messing around. It will be, 'Oh, that's why they've been teasing this villain for five years!'"

Feige might be okay talking about "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," but as for Gunn, the director is keeping mum at all costs.

"All right. From this moment on I'm going to stop commenting on any rumors surrounding 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,' because, eventually, someone is going to come up with a spoiler that has some truth to it," he wrote on his Facebook page. "That said, the rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth. I don't know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn't through legitimate sources."

Gunn insists that the moviegoing experience gets diminished whenever people and media entities reveal spoilers. He believes that moviegoers appreciate going to the cinemas and still be surprised.

"If you do pick up on some plot detail between now and then, be aware, A) They are likely full of (expletive), as has been everyone so far who has claimed to have had inside info, and B) We're creating a film that doesn't rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They're only a very small part of what we're cooking up for you," he said.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" will be released on May 5, 2017."
