Probably the biggest question concerning the "Star Wars" franchise nowadays is: Who will be the next Han Solo?

With Harrison Ford's Han Solo meeting his untimely demise in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," it has become more important than ever for Disney to choose the right star for the spinoff series, which will take the smuggler back to his youth, before he befriends the Jedi Luke Skywalker and his mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi.

According to Variety, a dozen actors have already been shortlisted in the list that contains thousands of Han Solo-wannabes.

On top of the list are "Fantastic Four" star Miles Teller, "The Fault in Our Stars" actor Ansel Elgort, "Unfinished Business" actor Dave Franco, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" actor Jack Reynor, "Percy Jackson" star Logan Lerman, "The Longest Ride" star Scott Eastwood, "Brooklyn" star Emory Cohen and "Everybody Wants Some" actor Blake Jenner.

The studio is still working out the details of the role, but it has been reported that producer Kathleen Kennedy and directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will begin testing the new group of actors and try to reach a decision within the next couple of weeks.

It will still be two years before the Han Solo spinoff makes its way to cinemas, but the studio is rushing to cast the role because rumor has it that young Han Solo will have a cameo in another Star Wars spinoff called "Star Wars: Rogue One."

During an earlier interview with Reuters, Ford was actually questioned whether or not he will be involved in the Han Solo spinoff.

"No, I'm not going to do that," the 73-year-old actor answered. "I don't think it's about being like me, it's about us being like Han Solo. So I'm sure whoever is responsible for that film, and I'm not, will think through the issues and problems of doing such a thing ... Let's make them responsible for those questions you might think to ask me because I'm not involved."

And despite his character bidding his goodbye in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," Ford is extremely happy with how the story unfolded. In fact, he is amazed how they were able to continue the story even after 10 years have passed.

"I'm pleased to see the skill with which the story has been rendered," Ford said. "I think it all came together very well."

The Han Solo spinoff has already been scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
