'Wonder Woman' Cast Updates: Connie Nielsen Just Cast As Diana Prince's Mother

Wonder Woman

Many people assumed that Nicole Kidman would be joining Patty Jenkins' DC film "Wonder Woman" as Diana Prince's mother Hippolyta, but recent news have just surfaced that prove the rumor wrong.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The Gladiator" star Connie Nielsen has just been cast as the queen of the Amazons and Gal Gadot's on-screen mother.

After seeing Hippolyta, it wouldn't come as a surprise where Wonder Woman gets her good looks and powers from. Hippolyte actually boasts of enhanced strength, speed, and durability, not to mention ageless eternal life and highly developed fighting skills.

In the comic books, she even takes on the role of Wonder Woman after she had visions of her daughter killed. She and her daughter don't always see eye to eye, but Hippolyte always has her daughter's best interests at heart.

Meanwhile, the god of thunder himself Zeus is reported to be Diana's father.

As previously reported, Chris Pine will be playing her love interest Steve Trevor while the rest of the cast include Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Ewen Bremner.

During an interview with The Toronto Sun, Pine actually discussed about his mysterious character and described him as someone charismatic.

"Steve Trevor is a rogue-ish, cynical realist who's seen the awful brutish nature of modern civilization," Pine said. "He's a worldly guy, a charming guy and it's going to be a great, fun film. There are some incredibly deep, interesting and morally relevant themes."

The actor has nothing but high praises for Jenkins, who was able to create a realistic world that would definitely blow audiences' minds away.

"Patty is just directing the daylights out of it. It's shot beautifully feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility," he gushed.

Pine is a huge fan of their World War I setting. "It's a period we don't see often; it's usually World War II," he said. "Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I'd never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here."

"It highlights a really important point. When background casting is done well, it can make or break a scene. I've got people in deep background that have entire lives. It's awesome, it's actual make-believe land," he added.

"Wonder Woman" will be released on June 23, 2017. The character's first appearance will be made on "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which will be shown on March 25, 2016.
