SOON Movement (also known as Korea Campus Crusade for Christ) partnered with the Korean Pastors Assocation of San Diego (KPASD) to host a conference for middle and high school students on April 23.
"There are a lot of events for adults, but at some point, events for the youth started disappearing," said Keesong Lee, who does inner city ministry with SOON Movement. "During a time when the reality is that about 80 percent of youth leave the church after they graduate, we need to share with them the true meaning of the gospel."
The event was particularly meaningful in that a mission organization and local churches came together with one purpose to prepare for the event. About 170 students and parents attended. Churches that are a part of the KPASD prepared food for the event, and students from the University of California, San Diego prepared and led the students in games. During the afternoon and evening, attendees participated in worship, with a sermon and a time for commitment. About 65 youth students decided to receive Christ at the gathering.
During the conference, Opera California Youth Choir sang worship songs, and three youth students received scholarships from the KPASD.
