A KFAM staff organize the gifts to be given to children at the Christmas party which took place on December 21.
Children and youth currently living in foster homes were able to celebrate Christmas this year at a party co-hosted by Korean American Family Services (KFAM) and the LA County Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) on December 21 from noon to 4 PM.
About 180 children, youth, and foster family members gathered at the party, which took place in Covina. The party featured a visit from Santa, a magic show, arts and crafts, balloons, painting, and nail art, among other activities.
KFAM also delivered Christmas gifts to the children and youth. The group held a campaign to gather donations during the month of November, and as a result, 90 children were able to receive gifts from their wish lists.
"Today's event was able to happen because of the hearts of many people in the Korean community that came together," said Connie Chung Joe, the executive director of KFAM. "Thank you to the many people who have given financial support to prepare the gifts, those who personally volunteered to wrap gifts and write cards, and those who helped prepare for the event."
"KFAM is also preparing to become a Foster Family Agency next year. As there are still about 34,000 children in the foster care system in LA County, we hope that many will continue to show interest in our foster family initiative here at KFAM," she added.
