A team of short-term missionary students in the English ministry of First Southern Baptist Church of Walnut left to South Korea on July 20 to share the gospel. The aims behind this mission trip were many, including restoring a sense of identity as a Korean in the Korean American students, and more importantly, providing them an opportunity to be messengers of the gospel.

First Southern Baptist Church (SBC) of Walnut has been prayerfully preparing for this trip for one year. Under the leadership of Matthew Jin, the EM and youth pastor at First SBC of Walnut, the team will be visiting churches in Gunsan and Seoul, teaching English and carrying out Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs in English, and sharing the gospel to non-believing students in South Korea.

"Though Korea is known to be the second most missionary-sending country, the number of students in Sunday schools has been gradually decreasing," said Jae Ho Song, senior pastor of First SBC of Walnut. "The reputation of Christians has also been damaged, so that even those within the church are leaving. Missions in Korea is necessary."

"I hope the Korean American members in this mission team will rediscover a part of their identity in a land that may have felt distant to them," he added. "And I hope that this will be an experience that inspires them as they share the gospel through their ability to speak English."
