American Idol Season XIV just took another unexpected turn as this week's results show shockingly sent home one unexpected contestant over another who has been in the bottom practically since the show began. In what could only be explained as a twist of fate, Rayven Owen edged out Joey Cook in a close fight for the Twitter save, according to Cartermatt.com.

Garnering 52 percent of the total number of votes gathered via the show's newest gimmick, the Twitter save, Owen was granted by social media users another week to prove his worth and bring home the grand prize. While the weekly elimination rounds already prepare the fans and followers of the show to expect that someone will be sent home every time, what makes this episode's outcome truly unexpected is the fact that it was Cook's first and only time to be on the chopping block. Meanwhile, Owen has been placing at the bottom which could even qualify him as a veteran in terms of dealing with the possible elimination.

Working on the theme American classics, the challenge for this week was for the Idol contestants to give their version of the hit singles that have been sang in various ways and by phenomenal stars throughout the years. Since Cook and Owen are in the bottom two, they were allotted two numbers to battle it out for the last spot in the top six.

Owen performed Long Train Running by the Doobie Brothers as well as Always on my Mind by Willie Nelson. While the first number appeared to be yet another uneventful number, the latter evoked emotions among the viewers. Keith Urban described the performance as "beautiful," which possibly cemented the fact that emotional ballads are Owen's strongest points.

Meanwhile, one of Cook's songs was My Funny Valentine. While she had been known to alter the arrangement of her song choices every now and then, the quirky singer opted to go traditional for this number. Donning a classy black dress, Cook swayed with the jazz band and injected her special brand of musicality in the performance. The judges appeared to have found this rendition mildly notable but it was definitely not their favorite for the night.

Her other number was Somebody To Love, which proved to be an infinitely better performance as the judges commended it as a rendition that gave everyone "all the colors of what Joey Cook is," according to Jennifer Lopez.

With these said, joining Owen in this season's top six are Nick Fradiani, Tyanna Jones, Jax Cole, Quentin Alexander, and Clark Beckham. The following week will then see the emergence of the top five who will be the lucky few to be included in the American Idol tour after this competition wraps up.
