Somang Society has donated $49,500 to Good Neighbors, with which Good Neighbors will build 15 new wells in Africa. Somang Society has been partnering with Good Neighbors since March of 2010 to build wells in Africa, and since then, the two organizations have built 247 wells. They've built 37 new wells in just 2014.

Building wells in Africa doesn't simply stop at the water that will be provided for the village. Wells also affect the safety and well-being of women and children, who are usually the ones who walk miles to gather water from the wells. After Somang Society and Good Neighbors started building wells together, they also built schools for children in preschool and kindergarten. Currently, there are four schools that they've built, and in this year alone they've built one new school.

On December 8, 60 individuals attended an end-of-year gathering hosted by Somang Society in their office in Cerritos. Julie Park, who is on the board of directors of Somang Society, gave a message of welcome, and the event began after Pastor Chang-Soon Lee said a word of prayer. Joong-Yul Lee, who is also on the board of directors, shared with the attendees the ministry and events that Somang took part in during 2014, and also shared the plans that they've made for 2015. Other than the work that they do together with Good Neighbors, Somang Society also does ministry that focuses on the elderly. In 2014, they've hosted 11 educational seminars regarding aging and death; helped 9,270 people write wills; and helped 697 people volunteer to donate their bodies for medical research purposes after their deaths.

"I hope that Korean seniors as well as the greater community will continue to work together to help others and reach out with Somang Society," said Boon Ja Yoo, the chairperson of Somang Society.
