‘Far Cry 5’ Release Date & Rumors: Ubisoft Chief Hints Development of New Game

Far Cry 4

Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubisoft, spoke during the company's earnings report and discussed the future of the "Far Cry" game franchise, according to Game Spot.

The company boss hinted that due to the massive success of the game series, it is highly likely that "Far Cry 4" will not be the last game installment that Ubisoft will release. In other words, gamers can probably expect to see a fifth "Far Cry" game in the future.

"The 'Far Cry' franchise is here for the long-run and is a stronger contender in the shooter genre," Guillemot said during the briefing.

The executive made the statement after revealing that around three months following the game's official release, "Far Cry 4" has managed to reach seven million in terms of total units sold. Based on the earnings report, it is Ubisoft's second highest-selling game released in 2014 next to "Watch Dogs," which sold 10 million units.

Even though Guillemot did not directly mention that "Far Cry 5" is already in the works, Ubisoft appears to be gearing up for the next installment in the series. In early January of this year, the game developer reportedly sent "Far Cry 4" gamers a survey regarding what they would like to see in "Far Cry 5," Eurogamer has learned.

According to the questionnaire that was acquired by the gaming news site, Ubisoft is considering to set "Far Cry 5" either in Alaska or Peru. It also asked gamers if they would like to see zombies, vampires and even dinosaurs in the future game.

Despite Guillemot's earnings report and the survey from Ubisoft, fans of the series will have to wait for an official statement from the game publisher to confirm the development of "Far Cry 5." For now, they can enjoy playing Overrun, the latest DLC for "Far Cry 4."

Released on Feb. 10 for the game's console editions and on Feb. 12 for the PC version, the content update comes with four new maps and the dune buggy vehicle. The DLC also offers a new game mode that pits players against other players, IGN reported.
