'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Rumors Are True, Says JJ Abrams

Director JJ Abrams has been known to be very tight-lipped regarding his projects, but he revealed to BBC News recently that some rumors surrounding his new sci-fi film Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens are actually true.

During the Irish Oscar Wilde awards in Los Angeles, where actress Carrie Fisher (who plays the role of Princess Leia) was being honored, Abrams talked about the new film that will be released this December 2015.

Aside from Fisher, other well-known Star Wars actors will be reprising their roles, such as Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.

"I can't wait for you to see it. It's been a blast working on this and luckily we have an incredible post-production team," Abrams said.

"There are always challenges as you go but it's been a complete kick to put this together," he added.

Abrams did not specify which among the rumors were true, but only said that they did their best to stay true to the franchise, especially when it came to the script.

"We did the best we can to preserve the story for the audience, but it doesn't always work," he admitted. "There are a ton of rumours - some true, some false. But I'm grateful for everyone who would want to read a spoiler because it means that they care and want to see the movie.

Even if he is the one directing the movie, Abrams is very excited for the outcome of The Force Awakens, and is thankful for all the talks surrounding the film since this only means that people are excited to watch it on the big screen.

"I know what it feels like, as an enormous Star Wars fan myself."

One of the rumors that have been circulating involves the new character Rey, who is said to be the daughter of Han Solo and Princess Leia. She will be played by neophyte actress Daisy Ridley.

Fans are really speculating heavily on lineage, and they are guessing that Domhall Gleeson's character is possibly playing Luke's son while Kylo Ren is possibly Han's or Luke's son too.

Kylo Ren's character seems to have an unhealthy fixation on Han Solo, so as his son this would make a lot of sense. In fact, he abandoned one of his missions when he saw that Han Solo was around.

There are also talks that Han Solo will be meeting his end in The Force Awakens, so whether or not this would be caused by Kylo Ren remains to be seen.
