'Star Wars 7' Star Harrison Ford Injured in Plane Crash

Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens star Harrison Ford was injured in a plane crash, NBC Los Angeles reported.

A long-time pilot, Ford was just about to enjoy a solo flight in a single-engine vintage plane when he unfortunately crashed into a golf course in Venice, California shortly after take-off.

Ford was immediately rushed to the hospital. The actor sustained a few gashes and is expected to undergo surgery for some injuries, but is reportedly in stable condition.

He reported engine trouble right after taking off and even tried to return to the airport, but the said engine trouble seems to be more than the experienced pilot could handle.

A spinal surgeon on the course named Dr. Sanjay Khurana saw the incident and braved the explosive situation just to help.

"I did a brief exam and I smelled the fuel and I didn't want it to ignite," he said. But the doctor got the surprise of his life when he saw that his patient was none other than Ford.

"I watched 'Star Wars' as a kid. I think we all did, right? I wanted to do my best. I tried my best to help someone in distress," he said.

Ford's son Ben later tweeted news about his father's condition: "At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man."

His publicist offered extra details about his crash too, saying that Ford was actually flying a World War II vintage plane but did not expect that there would be any engine trouble.

"He had no other choice but to make an emergency landing, which he did safely," his publicist said in a statement. "He was banged up and is in the hospital receiving medical care. The injuries sustained are not life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery."

It was not the first time Ford dealt with a plane crash. In a 2008 interview with National Geographic, he talked about his passion for flying and handling a plane that was forced to crash.

"I fly myself everywhere. I like all kinds of flying, including practical flying for search and rescue. And I also like to fly into the backcountry, usually the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho," he said. "I go with a group of friends, and we set up camp for about five days and explore little dirt strips and canyons."

When asked about rough times on the plane, the actor shared: "Well, there was a mechanical failure while we were practicing power recovery autorotations. It was more or less a hard landing. Luckily, I was with another aviation professional and neither of us was hurt - and both of us are still flying."
