"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be bringing back a lot of familiar and well-loved cast members from the previous "Star Wars" films such as Luke Skywalker (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), but it will also be introducing new characters the likes of Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and Rey (Daisy Ridley).
Among these new characters, it seems like Rey's parentage is the most talked about, since many have been speculating that she is actually the daughter of Leia and Han Solo (Mark Hamill). Based on the two trailers released so far, Rey's character is seen as a "rough and tumble" scavenger living on the planet Jakku, where the much hyped air chase between the Millenium Falcon and TIE fighters take place.
But based on the website called Making Star Wars, the premiere source for any Star Wars news, none of the new characters have Solo or Skywalker as their last names. There has been ample evidence to support Rey being a Solo, but it is sadly not the case, according to their sources.
"We've discussed the loads of circumstantial evidence for Rey being a Solo in the past," Making Star Wars wrote. "We have sequences where she is drawn to the Falcon and knows how to repair it instinctually. Han passes her his blaster and she keeps it. She ends up the Captain of the Falcon with Chewbacca as her co-pilot by the end of the film. She exits the picture soon after a heartfelt goodbye with Leia. Most of all, she ends up with the Skywalker lightsaber by the end of the show."
But citing their sources, "none of the heroes... the kids... are Solos or Skywalkers." They even added: "It would not knock me on my knees to learn she (Rey) is a Solo. VII does not answer that question. It just presents it."
The last statement, however, provided opened up the possibility of Rey being the daughter of Han and Leia: "We have not seen anything to make us think the girl is the daughter... yet."
Her true lineage might not be revealed in the Star Wars movie this year, but it might be answered in the films to come.
"Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" will open in theaters on December 18, 2015, while "Star Wars: Rogue One" will be released on December 16, 2016. Finally, "Star Wars: Episode VIII" will be shown on May 26, 2017.
