An update by a network carrier in France revealed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS upgrade is scheduled to hit devices from Sony's Xperia series sometime in August.

These include the Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3, according to the Xperia Blog.

Earlier in June, Sony Mobile announced that it is preparing to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its Xperia Z line-up in July. Buts based on the service roadmap posted by French carrier Société Française de Radiotéléphone (SFR), the update will arrive a month later.

Although the conflicting schedules might appear as if the update has been delayed, a month-long interval is still acceptable in terms of carrier standards. After all, carriers will still have to conduct various test procedures on the update before releasing it to the public.

As for Sony's other devices, SFR noted that owners of the Xperia Z and Xperia Tablet Z can expect to receive the update sometime in September. The carrier, however, did not mention when the update will land for the Xperia M2.

SFR nor Sony Mobile have not yet released the notes regarding the features of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the mentioned Xperia devices. But it's safe to assume that the update will come with new features and improvements.

Based on updates on other devices, the 5.1 version of the Lollipop comes with stability features that can enhance Android Run Time, according to International Business Times. Through the update, apps will load faster and will no longer crash due to memory leak issues.

In addition, the update will add a toggle option access for Wi-Fi in the Quick Settings menu. Also, the silent mode, which was removed when the Android 5.0 Lollipop arrived, will make a comeback through version 5.1.
