Android L Update 5.1 Arriving to Motorola Droid Turbo

Android

Earlier this week, it was reported that the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Motorola's Droid Turbo has undergone soak tests.

Now, a U.S. network carrier announced that it is ready to roll out the update this week, 9to5Google reported.

"I know this is going to make some people happy," Motorola's software product manager David Schuster posted on his Google+ account.

"We have started the Droid Turbo soak test for the Android 5.1 upgrade this evening with our forum registered users," he added. "If all goes well we will open it up later this week."

Apparently, the tests yielded positive results as mobile carrier Verizon announced that it will begin rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update on July 1.

However, as seen in previous roll outs, not all Verizon Droid Turbo owners will get to receive the update. Since the OS upgrade will be released in stages, other users will be notified about the update's availability within the next few days. Of course, they can manually check for its availability through the Settings menu.

As for the updates features, the jump from the Droid Turbo's stock Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS to version 5.1 comes with the Lollipop's Material Design. This design layout from Google features better animation graphics, enhanced colors and additional system and application themes.

Through the update, Droid Turbo users will also get new control options for the device's notifications UI. These include prioritizing important notifications, altering volume settings and customizing notification alarms and schedules.

The version 5.1 of the Android Lollipop also comes with a new security feature. Devices that have been stolen will remain locked even if their factory settings have been reset. They will only unlock once the authorized users sign in using their Google account credentials.

Also, the update features a battery saver mode that automatically reduces the device's background operations to conserve power.
