Fans of "The Walking Dead' can look forward to a more "complicated" season as it returns for its sixth run this October.

In a recent interview with Nerdist, Norman Reedus opened up about how the storytelling for the upcoming season will be greatly different from the other past seasons.

"There's lots of action and lots of drama and lots of sadness like we always bring, but this season's particularly complicated," Reedus shared. "The storylines are really interwoven with future and past."

The actor, who plays arrow-wielding Daryl Dixon in AMC's zombie drama, also explained how the team behind the hit series makes interesting plans for a fresh take on episodes.

"Certain things happen, and you're kind of like, 'Wow, that just happened.' Then you'll find out episodes later why that happened and what that meant," Reedus explained. '[Executive producer and showrunner] Scott [Gimple]'s so good at planning for the future and taking little things and making them mean big things later."

The actor also described Gimple's approach to storytelling as "super interesting" and "thrilling."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gimple announced that the first eight episodes of the sixth season will incorporate elements that have been only been referenced as "past events" in the comics, thereby showing a sort of prequel to the episodes that will come out in the season's second half.

"I think there's a way that [executive producer] Robert [Kirkman] did some of the story that we're reaching that had a real past to it, where people are referring to some things in the past in the comic," Gimple explained, while also adding that the TV series will present certain parts of such back story in ways that were not portrayed in the comics.

With regards to the first half of "The Walking Dead' season six, these first few episodes might give viewers a glimpse of Alexandria's beginning or the whereabouts of Morgan (Lennie James) before he was able to find his way back to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) during the season five finale.

Meanwhile, the show has begun adding to its cast for season six as "Straight Outta Compton' actor Corey Hawkins has signed on to play a major comic book character.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hawkins is set for a recurring role and will make his debut as Heath, an important member of the Alexandria Safe Zone, in the upcoming season. More casting details are yet to be announced.

"The Walking Dead' has been set to return for its sixth season in October; a premiere date is expected to be announced at this year's San Diego Comic-Con.
