'Angry Birds' Game: Josh Gad Reveals Why People Should Give Film the Benefit of the Doubt

Angry Birds

There were quite a few raised eyebrows when news broke out that there would be an "Angry Birds" movie in the works, and "Frozen" star Josh Gad admitted that he was one of the skeptics who initially thought that the game-turned-movie would not really amount to anything.

After all, just what kind of story can one make out of angry birds shooting rocks at pigs and collecting eggs in the process? But during an interview with IGN, Gad revealed that he was actually taken by surprise when he read the movie's script, and he believes that audiences should give "Angry Birds" the movie the benefit of the doubt first before dismissing it.

"It's really a thing" he said. "And in fact, when I was approached about it, I actually said no, for many reasons, the most significant of which was I did Olaf (in 'Frozen') and I don't want to play another animated character, especially right now. The producer was like 'Just let me kind of pitch out this movie to you' and did this reel for me of what he was thinking about, and it was this 30-minute visual pitch and it blew my socks off."

Gad even compared "Angry Birds" to the highly successful "LEGO Movie," which won several awards, such as the Critics' Choice for Best Animated Film, BAFTA Award for Best Animated Film, and New York Film Critics Award for Best Animated Film, among many others.

"It's really irreverent, and like that 'LEGO Movie' sensibility it's subversive and funny and unexpectedly smart and really beautiful. Actually gorgeous," he added. "The little I've seen of it has really impressed me."

Gad really has his plate full with acting gigs. He has just wrapped up his role as LeFou in Disney's live action movie "Beauty and the Beast," which would star "Harry Potter" alum Emma Watson as Belle, "Downton Abbey" alum Dan Stevens as Beast, and "The Hobbit" star Luke Evans as Gaston.

He even shared a photo of him hugging his on-screen hero Gaston on his Instagram account and wrote, "That's a wrap! Will miss the cast of #beautyandthebeast especially my brilliant Gaston #LukeEvans."

The actor will also be seen in the comedy action film "Pixels," which he co-stars in together with "Happy Madison" star Adam Sandler, "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage, and "Mall Cop" star Kevin James. It will be released soon on August 12 this year.
