Frank Dillane, best remembered by some for his portrayal as the young Tom Riddle in the "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" movie will now be portraying a drug junkie named Nick in the "Walking Dead" spin-off series called "Fear the Walking Dead," and the actor said that dealing with an intense audience fan base in the past has helped prepared him take on a role in a series that has a similar vein.
"You know, it's interesting. I think it might have (helped)," he told Entertainment Weekly in an interview. "I think it has because I was exposed to that kind of hysteria quite early on, so I kind of expect it. It's not going to be a surprise at least. I don't really like it, but I kind of expect it at least."
When asked to expound what he did not like about having an intense fan base, Dillane clarified that it's the fame and how it can easily get into any actor's head.
"I'm sure there will come a time when I won't be able to, you know, walk around so easy sometimes, or it's just things that I don't necessarily want. I don't really necessarily want to be famous. It takes away from the craft a little bit, but I think it's part of the job these days, it seems to be," he said.
Dillane revealed that he also feels "very, very, very bad" watching his own works, and that is why he avoids it at all costs. "I haven't watched it," he said of "Fear the Walking Dead," but he might consider starting now for the sake of his improvement as an actor "I said I may. I don't know if I... I really don't want to watch it, but I think I'm coming to an age now as an actor where it's time to start actually looking and analyzing and going, 'Right, well, that didn't work,' or, 'Right, this did work.'"
Prior to taking on the role of Nick, Dillane admitted that he was not familiar with "The Walking Dead" series, but his ignorance might have contributed to him giving a more honest portrayal in the spin-off series.
"I haven't seen it yet at all. I'm trying to stay clear as much as possible. My understanding is it's a very different show and certainly different characters, so I've stayed clear of it. Also, I think it could be detrimental if I start to watch something I'm supposed to be a part of, if I start to imitate at least the style of that kind of show or whatever, so I stay clear," he said.
