Sony is currently preparing for the official launch of update 3.0 for the PlayStation 4 console.

A beta program held recently for the upcoming update has already given a select number of gamers a glimpse of its new features.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, the beta test for the update dubbed as Kenshin started on September 1. Those who were able to participate in the event might have noticed that the online storage capacity of their consoles have been bumped up from 1GB to 10GB.

The beta version of the update also came with a usage meter to notify gamers their available storage capacity.

Aside from this, gamers were also able to see the various social-based features of update 3.0. These include the YouTube Live feature which will allow gamers to stream their games directly to the popular website. This feature is also designed to work with the newly launched YouTube Gaming.

Similar to YouTube Live, another feature of the update will also let gamers upload and share video clips to their Twitter accounts. However, the length of the clips is limited to only 10 seconds.

In addition, through the update, PlayStation Plus members will be able to create communities with their friends and even strangers based on their shared social and gaming interests. They will also be allowed to share screenshots and discuss various topics through these communities. This feature can also be used by gamers to recruit players for multiplayer games, KRWG News 22 reported.

"If you want to tackle a big multiplayer raid, but don't have enough friends available, this could be a great way to connect with other players who are looking for the same thing," John Koller, Sony's vice president for Platforms Marketing wrote in the blog post.

Another feature of the Kenshin update is the Events hub. This will provide gamers with news and other updates related to their favorite games.

Other features include stickers for messages and the option to watch other players' game play footages.

As Koller noted, these are only some of the features of the upcoming update 3.0. Although additional services might be added, some of them might also be removed for the final version of Kenshin. This will depend on the feedback from gamers who were able to test out its beta version.

There are no details yet regarding the specific release date of update 3.0 but the executive said that Sony will announce Kenshin's official launch soon.
