The Wolves' invasion in "The Walking Dead' last Sunday proved Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) right in telling the Alexandrians that they should be able to step up and fight for their survival.

Rick's romantic interest, Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), did step up in the episode titled "JSS' and showed her as she engaged in a fight with a female member of the Wolves.

Breckenridge recently opened up to Entertainment Weekly about the unsettling scenes as well as the possibility of carrying on with the "romantic tension" with Rick as the sixth season unfolds.

"I was happy that my character actually got it together, and her fight-or-flight kicked in and she's desperate to save her family," Breckenridge said.

The actress also shared about having to prepare for her most vicious scene since jumping onboard "The Walking Dead,' concentrating on the part of herself which she feels most insecure about and imagining that she was battling her own "demons."

The "American Horror Story' alum also felt that Jessie has been facing similar issues as she fights off the physical threats to protect her family.

"All of the emotion that has been built up in her for so many years in this environment and with what's taken place is being unleashed on this woman in that moment," the actress said. "I think it's pretty obvious that she just goes crazy."

When it comes to surviving and becoming a fighter, Breckenridge is simply suggesting that her character could might as well follow Carol's (Melissa McBride) footsteps. Once again, Carol proved her worth in the "JSS' episode by donning her Wolves disguise and defending the community's armory.

Meanwhile, Jessie continues to face the pressure of having to deal with her feelings for Rick. Although her husband is now outside of the picture, Rick had been the one to kill, despite the circumstances being deemed as justified homicide. This further complicates any kind of romance that is blossoming between Jessie and the man who killed her husband.

"So she is grateful to Rick for opening her eyes"¦ but she's not thinking about him romantically now," Breckenridge said. "Her concern is to learn how to use a gun, learn how to defend herself, so that she can become the strongest."

As such, there seems to be no immediate plans on "The Walking Dead' season six for a happy relationship between Rick and Jessie, and the long-term possibilities for the pair could be gloomy as well.

"The Walking Dead' season six airs every Sunday on AMC.
