When fans of the "Star Wars" franchise first saw the trailer for the seventh installment called "The Force Awakens," they noticed a glaring omission - Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) was not a part of it.

Many have wondered why such a key figure was missing in the trailer, given the fact that everybody else - from Harrison Ford's Han Solo to Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia was included in the action-packed teaser.

But now, director J.J. Abrams is talking about Luke's disappearance from the final trailer, saying that there is a very good reason why he was not included.

"These are good questions to be asking, I can't wait for you to find out the reason... It's no accident," he said during an interview with the Associated Press.

Abrams is overwhelmed by the positive and enthusiastic response people had over the trailer. "Star Wars" fans, of course, were all going crazy over it, but Abrams was also happy to note that there are some people who are unfamiliar with the franchise who became curious about the sci-fi story after seeing the trailer for "The Force Awakens."

"We were all thrilled that the trailer was seen and embraced, especially people who were saying they're not even really fans of Star Wars but they're interested in seeing this thing now and it's a testament to all the amazing work that this cast and crew have done, and the studio in rolling out the movie the way they have," he said.

Abrams had to use a lot of visual effects for the upcoming movie, and he said that it's really a lot of work making a "Star Wars" film. However, it will be all worth it in the end when people see the finished product.

"The visual effects process goes on for so long, my guess is that we'll probably be doing visual effects for the next three or four weeks even though the cut will be done before then," he shared. "We're in the editing room, and you know working on the cut, going over visual effects and doing reviews. We still have another scoring session with John Williams, who is a god when it comes to music, and so it's been an ongoing surreal experience and I just cannot wait for the movie to be out in the world."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will be released on December 18, 2015.
