Breaking up is hard to do, and while British actor Daniel Radcliffe did not necessarily break up with his character Harry Potter, he was still forced to say goodbye to the character when the franchise wrapped up several years ago.

Radcliffe really took the separation hard, and he just revealed now during Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast that he used alcohol to cope with the end of the "Harry Potter" series.

"I was living alone, and I think I was really freaked out," the 26-year-old actor said. "I drank a lot."

He explained that his alcohol dependence stemmed from the fact that he feared returning to reality after being Harry Potter for over a decade.

"I think it was more to do with going out in public and having a battle within me of thinking no, I can have a totally normal life. You get bored of waking up feeling like that," he said.

Lucky for Radcliffe, but he was offered great roles left and right when "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" finished. This is something the actor truly feels grateful about, since he might have headed in a totally different direction if not for work.

"I was very lucky that people gave me opportunities directly after Potter finished to play more grown-up stuff, because I could have been getting teen offer type stuff," he said.

In an different interview with Heat magazine back in 2012, Radcliffe opened up about his long struggle with alcohol dependency.

"I have a very addictive personality," he said. "It was a problem. I don't want to go into details, but I drank a lot and it was daily - I mean, nightly."

In fact, alcohol consumed Radcliffe so much so that he brought his addiction to work, which thankfully did not manifest in any of the "Harry Potter" films, which ran from 2001 to 2011.

"I went into work still drunk, but I never drank at work," he explained. "I can point to many scenes where I'm just gone. Dead behind the eyes."

Now, Radcliffe has gotten his life on track and has never been drunk to work again. His latest movie will be "Victor Frankenstein," which he stars with together with "X-Men: Apocalypse" star James McAvoy. There, he will portray Frankenstein's loyal assistant Igor.

Radcliffe is also currently dating fellow actress Erin Darke, and he has proudly been sober since 2013.
