The Walt Disney Co. has big plans for the "Star Wars" franchise. After the release of the seventh installment "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" this December, it will be gearing up for the eighth and ninth installment, not to mention several other spinoff films.

In fact, Harrison Ford's character Han Solo would be getting his own standalone film, slated for release on May 2018.

When Reuters asked Ford if he would be a part of the spinoff film, the veteran actor answered negative.

"No, I'm not going to do that," the 73-year-old actor said.

"I don't think it's about being like me, it's about us being like Han Solo," he added. "So I'm sure whoever is responsible for that film, and I'm not, will think through the issues and problems of doing such a thing ... Let's make them responsible for those questions you might think to ask me because I'm not involved."

According to Disney, the standalone film will focus on how Han Solo became a smuggler. When Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first met him in the original 1977 "Star Wars" film, Han Solo was a notorious smuggler, although no comprehensive details were provided as to how he came to be that way.

On the other hand, Ford gamely talked about "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," saying that he was amazed how they were able to continue the story even after 10 years have passed.

"I'm pleased to see the skill with which the story has been rendered," Ford said. "I think it all came together very well."

There is always a ton of pressure involved with movie releases, especially one that is as highly anticipated as "Star Wars" episode VII. But Ford has learned to take everything in stride, and not obsess whether a movie will do well or not.

"I don't really worry about it any more. I didn't worry about it then because I felt like it had very little to do with me," he explained. Ford was also talking about how he felt back in 1977, when the former "Star Wars" film was released.

"I don't worry about it now because it's just going to be whatever it is," he added.

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which is directed by J.J. Abrams will be released on December 18, 2015. Other stars of the film include Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, and many others.
