This week, AMC announced the beginning of the production on its new series, "Fear the Walking Dead', to be set in Vancouver. Certain scenes will also be filmed in Los Angeles, although no official date has been announced yet.
Known as the companion series to "The Walking Dead', which has been recognized as the #1 TV series among adults aged 18-49, "Fear the Walking Dead' is still being executive produced by Robert Kirkman. He is joined by Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero and David Alpert.
Produced by AMC Studios, "Sons of Anarchy' alum David Erickson will take part in running the series.
Co-executive producer Adam Davidson, who helmed the pilot episode, will also be working on the second and third episodes. The first season of "Fear the Walking Dead' is comprised of six one-hour episodes and will make its official debut on AMC in late summer.
AMC.com also unveiled an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip which shows the filming of the pilot episode.
""Fear the Walking Dead' takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of "The Walking Dead,'" said Kirkman. "A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing mostly likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you."
Kirkman also shared that the upcoming series will follow more intense circumstances as it shows how civilization deteriorates and goes unnoticed by Rick Grimes, although the story follows new characters.
"I could not be more thrilled to be continuing on this apocalyptic journey, dramatizing the horrific disintegration of society through the lens of a dysfunctional family," Erickson said. "We've assembled a stellar cast and crew to tell our story "” it's going to be a great ride."
Set in Los Angeles, "Fear the Walking Dead' will focus on new storylines and characters. Confirmed cast members include Kim Dickens ("Sons of Anarchy', "Gone Girl') as Madison; Frank Dillane ("Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince') as Nick; Cliff Cutis ("Missing') as Travis; and Alycia Debnam-Carey ("Into the Storm') as Alicia.
Other series regulars include Mercedes Mason ("Quarantine 2: Terminal') as Ofelia and Elizabeth Rodriguez ('Orange is the New Black') as Liza.
Meanwhile, "The Walking Dead' has already been recognized as a widely acclaimed hit series for AMC since its debut in 2012. After going through five seasons, the show has attracted the highest number of audience viewers in U.S. cable TV history.
Although fans will have to wait for summer to get a glimpse of "Fear the Walking Dead', AMC previously unveiled the first trailer of spinoff series, which can be viewed below.
