Bible Studying: More Effective Ways on Reading the Bible

Bible Studying

Learning more about God is possible through the study of the Bible. It is through His words that we not only discover the traits and characteristics of God but also gain an understanding of His will for each of us as individuals. We also get to understand God's plan in history, as well as His power, providence, love, and other attributes.

More Effective Ways of Bible Studying

According to Glorify, when reading the Bible for the first time, many people begin with the Gospels, specifically the Gospel of Mark. It is the shortest of the four Gospels and is believed to have been written in the earliest of all accounts. As a result, how it recounts the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus carries with it a helpful sense of urgency.

Ephesians, one of Paul's letters, is also an excellent location to begin reading the Bible. This relatively little book does an excellent job of encapsulating the gospel brought to us by Jesus Christ and how it ought to affect our lives. However, knowing how to read the Bible more effectively is essential. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints provided helpful Bible study methods.

1. Begin your study with prayer

It is always a good idea to start your time spent studying with earnest prayer, regardless of when or where you do your studying. Begin by addressing God in your prayer. Then, as you read, pray to Him to give you insight and comprehension. Ask for a direction that is tailored specifically to your life. When you have finished praying, finish it by saying, "in the name of Jesus Christ, amen." Praying to God before beginning our academic work demonstrates to him our submissiveness and our desire for his guidance and assistance.

2. Choose a topic relevant to you

Find individual verses related to the subject you've chosen to analyze, then look them up. You could also begin by using the materials found on ChurchofJesusChrist.org. These resources include a listing of everyday subjects and relevant biblical verses. After that, you could broaden the scope of your investigation by using the related words.

3. Write down what you learn

Don't forget what the Bible or Holy Spirit has taught you. Keep your reading insights in a journal or notebook. God will reveal more if we respect what we learn.

4. Don't get discouraged

Studying what the Bible teaches is an endeavor that should last a lifetime. God is happy with our effort to learn from His writings, regardless of how much we understand (or don't understand) as we read them. God is pleased with any effort we make to learn from His words.
