'NCIS' Is America's Top Favorite TV Series, Which Shows Follow Next?

While weekly reports for America's highest-rated TV shows are regularly generated, Harris Poll recently carried out a survey among 2,232 U.S. viewers which took various factors into consideration, including age, gender and location. Carried out between January 14 and January 20, 2015, the survey sought to determine which current TV shows are deemed to be their favorite ones to watch.

Based on the results, the top choice as favorite TV show is the police drama series "NCIS' from CBS. While the show does not always make the headlines, it has also been assumed to have a lower number of active viewers as compared to other shows such as CBS' "The Big Bang Theory' which ranked second, and AMC's "The Walking Dead which rounded out the top three.

Drawing out from the survey results, the list of the top 10 favorite shows in America includes the following:

1. CBS' "NCIS'
2. CBS' "The Big Bang Theory'
3. AMC's "The Walking Dead'
4. ABC's "Scandal'
5. HBO's "Game of Thrones'
6. CBS' "The Good Wife'; NBC's "The Blacklist' (both tied at the same rank)
7. ABC's "Modern Family'
8. CBS' "Blue Bloods'
9. CBS' "Criminal Minds

CBS Vision President David Poltrack said in an official statement that the recently concluded survey is of great importance in determining the country's top choices when it comes to networks and programs.

"We all know that NCIS and The Big Bang Theory are the top-rated scripted series, but this survey demonstrates that these shows clearly stand out as America's favorite choice in a growing television universe," Poltrack stated.

He also mentioned the significance of active viewer engagement when it comes to responding to TV advertising and offerings as well as the distinct mark of the CBS primetime lineup.

"This level of viewer engagement is important because research has proven that engaged viewers are more receptive to and more responsive to advertising," Poltrack said. "The CBS primetime lineup accounted for far more "favorite' mentions than that of any other network and contained more different programs chosen as viewer favorites, confirming the unique bond between this Network's programs and its audience."

Meanwhile, this week's episode of "NCIS' season 12 will give fans a look at the younger version of Special Agent DiNozzo, portrayed in the series by Michael Weatherly, as he attends military prep school. Guest starring on the upcoming episode, Tanner Stine will be playing the younger agent.

According to NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg, having this throwback scene will give everyone an idea as to how a near-future mystery will be solved and help understand the nature of DiNozzo's character.

"NCIS" Season 12 airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS.
