'Star Trek 3' Cast: Idris Elba Might Be In Talks to Take On Villain Role

While there are speculations that actor Idris Elba will be playing James Bond after Daniel Craig exits the film series, it has recently been made known that the "Pacific Rim' star may be joining another blockbuster franchise.

According to unnamed sources, Elba is in talks to star as the main villain in "Star Trek 3.' The third movie of the rebooted story will be directed by Justin Lin, who is widely known for his work in "Fast & Furious 6.' Lin will be taking the director's chair from J.J. Abrams, who will shift to production duties this time.

However, it remains unknown as to which villain Elba will be playing; with "Star Trek Into Darkness', exact details about the identity of the character portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch were kept under wraps until the film's release.

In February, 'Breaking Bad' star Bryan Cranston was rumored to take on the villain role while three female roles were reportedly being filled up.

If Elba were to join the "Star Trek 3' cast, he would star alongside Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and Simon Pegg, all of whom would be reprising their roles.

In addition, the 42-year-old actor was set to join the new revenge drama movie helmed by Harmony Korine, titled "The Trap.' Such film will focus on the happenings behind the music scene in Miami, with Elba portraying a gangster rap artist and Benicio del Toro taking on the role of his best friend.

In this movie, Elba replaces Jamie Foxx who was originally set to play the character. Other actors who will reportedly round out the cast include Al Pacino, James Franco, and Robert Pattinson. Fans can also look forward to the actor starring in the Netflix drama, "Beats of No Nation,' and the new action thriller, "Bastille Day.'

With numerous projects to further boost his career, the "Luther' actor already landed an upcoming venture outside of acting. SuperGroup recently called on Elba to become the face of its latest premium range of apparel with which the actor will also be contributing his own designs to the line. The new range can be availed by interested fans and customers in shops and online stores this coming fall and winter.
