LG G4 Reviews: Did LG Made a Mistake in Choosing the Smartphone’s Processor?

Aside from its impressive camera performance, LG boasts that its latest flagship smartphone, the G4 is equipped with a powerful and efficient processor.

But in a review by Pocket Now, the tech site analyzed if LG made an excellent decision in using the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset for the G4.

For LG's recently released device, the G Flex 2, which came out in January of this year, the tech giant went with the more powerful Snapdragon 810. Given the trend of producing better successors, it would have made sense if LG decided to equip the G4 with the same processor.

However, the company proceeded with the Snapdragon 808 for the G4. Although the company did not provide a specific explanation regarding its decision, various sources speculated that it might have to do something with the Snapdragon 810'S overheating issue.

In a benchmark test conducted by the Dutch site Tweakers, it was revealed that the HTC One M9, another 810-powered device, was running at a significantly higher temperature compared to other devices with different chipsets. However, as XDA-Developers noted, the heat might have been caused by bugs in the M9, and not the Snapdragon 810 only.

Despite this, it was not officially proven if the chipset does have overheating problems. After the launch of the G Flex 2, however, LG admitted that it encountered certain issued with the first batch of Snapdragon 810 processors. The company then noted that these have been resolved.

Although the 808 version is technically weaker than the 810, a hands-on review by Pocket Now on the G4 revealed that the smartphone still performs smoothly and has a very responsive interface.

In a different report by Business News Daily, the site compared the performance of the G4 with Samsung's Galaxy S6, a smartphone which has received positive reviews from users and tech experts.

According to the site, the G4's Snapdragon 808 and the Galaxy S6's Exynos 7420 performed equally well in terms of their power and overall performance.

Although it seems LG made the right choice with the 808 processor for the G4, the smartphone is relatively a young device since it was only released on April 29. Hopefully, more analytical reviews will be released about the G4 once more users get their hands on it.
