Apple is gearing up to launch new smartphone, tablet and laptop models in the near future.

But aside from its devices, another highly anticipated product from the Cupertino-based firm is its new iOS 9 OS.

Apple has confirmed that it will unveil the latest version of its operating system next month, during the WWDC 2015 event that's scheduled to begin on June 8, 9to5Mac has learned.

According to various sources, one of the major features of the iOS 9 is the upgraded version of Apple's digital assistant Siri. The famous voice assistant first debuted in 2011 with the release of the iPhone 4S. Recent owners of the Apple Watch already got a glimpsed of the new version of Siri.

Although details of Siri's upgrades are still unclear, Tech Radar noted Apple may have significantly improved the assistant's interface to compete with Google Now and Cortana from Microsoft.

Another expected feature of the iOS 9 is the improved Music app from the iOS 8.4. Since Apple has recently acquired Beats Music, it is highly possible that the company's music streaming service could be integrated in the latest iOS version.

If so, then users will be able to access the service through their existing iTunes accounts.

Apple Maps is also expected to receive significant improvements through the iOS 9. Previously rumored for the iOS 8, the updated version will include directions for public transportation networks such as routes of trains, busses and subways.

This feature will be extremely helpful for travelers who are planning on exploring foreign countries through the public transport systems.

Aside from these user-targeted features, Apple has also packed the iOS 9 with various bug fixes to improve the overall performance of devices. The company is apparently trying to avoid making the same mistakes that came that came with the release of the iOS 8 last year.
