OnePlus 2 Updates & Specs: Company Confirms Upcoming Handset Will be Powered by Improved Snapdragon 810 Processor

OnePlus confirmed that its upcoming 2 flagship smartphone will be powered by the Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm.

The company then said that it worked closely with the chip-maker to ensure that the processor will not overheat when used in the OnePlus 2.

According to an update in the OnePlus forums, the company will use the Snapdragon 810 version 2.1 for the OnePlus 2. As previously explained by Qualcomm, this is an improved version of the previous Snapdragon 810 chipset.

To ensure that the processor will not overheat, OnePlus collaborated with Qualcomm in integrating the chipset with the upcoming handset's hardware and software specs.

"Although there have been reports that the 810 runs warmer than its predecessors, we assure you that we have taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent this from occurring in the 2," OnePlus wrote in the forum post.

"We worked very closely with Qualcomm's engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software," the company added. "The 2 will be 'cooler than ever.'"

Aside from working on the compatibility between the Snapdragon 810 and the 2's specs, OnePlus also conducted an extra step to prevent overheating problems. The company said that it applied graphite and thermal gel on the processor and different internal areas of the smartphone.

OnePlus explained that through this technique, the heat from the processor will not be concentrated in one area and will instead be dispersed, 9to5Google has learned.

Hopefully, the extra precautionary methods taken by OnePlus and Qualcomm are enough to protect the 2 from suffering from overheating issues.

As for the handset's cost, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau previously hinted that with a Snapdragon 810, the OnePlus One's successor will probably have a retail price of around $400.

However, according to insiders, the upcoming flagship device from the company might arrive with a cheaper price tag. Android Pit reported that depending on internal storage capacities, the OnePlus 2 variants might go on sale for $299 and $349.
