Sprint has announced that it has officially started rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S 6Edge.
The OS upgrade from the mobile carrier comes two weeks after T-Mobile released the same update for Samsung's current flagship devices.
According to a post on Sprint's support page, the update is currently being rolled out to users in stages. This means that it might take a while before all Sprint Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge users receive the update, Android Authority reported.
Despite this, users can still manually check the update's availability through the Settings menu of their devices. From there, they can check for system updates by tapping on the About Phone tab.
Once the update is available, users are advised to simply follow the onscreen instructions to begin the update's download and installation processes.
The update for the Galaxy S6 upgrades the firmware's version to G920PVPU2B0F7. Edge users, on the other hand, will get the version G925PVPU2B0F7, according to Phandroid.
As seen in previous roll outs for other devices, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update comes with various new features as well as bug fixes. For one, the Quick Settings for version 5.1 has been improved to allow users to connect to other Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices without going to the Settings app.
Also, a new security feature dubbed as Screen Pinning has been added. This allows device owners to limit the contents other people can use. For instance, if they don't want other users from using a certain app in their devices, they can simply pin it to prevent it from being accessed.
Other features of update 5.1 include improved animations, new notifications interface and a device protection mode that keeps devices locked even if their factory settings have been reset by an unauthorized user.
