Meizu MX4

Meizu has officially launched its latest flagship smartphone dubbed as the MX5 during a press event held on Tuesday.

The device is expected to debut in China's retail stores on July 5, according to NDTV.

Meizu's latest flagship device has a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels and protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 3. With Samsung's AMOLED display, the MX5's screen provides 100 percent NTSC color gamut and a contrast ratio of 10,000 to 1.

For its processor, Meizu powered the MX5 using the newly released octa-core Helio X10 chipset from MediaTek. It is also equipped with the PowerVR G6200 GPU. According to the company, even after playing games on the device for a long time, this graphics processing unit still maintains stable framerates.

At first glance, the camera features of the MX5 may appear similar to those of its predecessor, the MX4. Both are packed with a 20.7-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel front snapper.

Meizu explained that despite the similar configuration, the MX5's camera has better peripheral resolution than that of the MX4 due to its 6P lens. In addition, the former also has laser-focus technology.

The MX5 will be available in three different storage variations. The 16GB model can be purchased for CNY 1,799 or roughly $290 while the 32GB version will cost CNY 1,999 or around $322. The premium variant, which has 64GB of internal storage, will have a retail price of CNY 2,399 or $387.

All three models have 3GB of RAM and come with the stock Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. They also run on a 3150mAh battery with quick charging feature. Meizu claims that with this feature, the handset's battery can be charged from zero to 60 percent capacity in 40 minutes.

The MX5 is scheduled to hit the Chinese market within the next few days. Meizu has not yet issued a statement regarding the release of its latest flagship handset in other countries.
