Following Disney Pictures' announcement that a sequel to the well-received "The Incredibles' is in the works, speculations have made the headlines as to what storyline will be followed.
Disney President Bob Iger confirmed that the second installment is being developed earlier this year during the Disney Investor's Meeting while Oscar-winning writer and director Brad Bird was confirmed to be working on the script.
Bird, who penned and helmed Pixar's "The Incredibles' in 2004, said that he will be working fully on the animated superhero sequel. He also revealed that he has already finished writing "a bunch of pages" for the movie's script.
"I had a lot of ideas for the original "Incredibles' that I didn't get a chance to use, that I like," Bird said. "I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit, and there wasn't enough time in "Incredibles.' There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie."
While the creative and production teams are currently keeping mum on plot, casting and other details, reports have claimed that Bird prefers to limit the information being revealed to the public as he does not wish for the film to be turned into a "footnote or commentary on the current state of the superhero genre," Crossmap reported.
Actor Samuel L. Jackson, who voiced Lucius Best aka Frozone, is also expected to be included in the cast once again for the upcoming installment.
Jackson previously dropped hints that his ice-skilled character is likely yo return for the "Incredibles' sequel.
"Every time I run into Brad, he always tells me Frozone is part of what's going on [in the sequel], so I have to believe that. I guess they could be the Incredibles without Frozone, but I think Frozone would be a wonderful addition to what's already there," Jackson shared.
Another speculation suggests that the story for 'The Incredibles 2' will be set 11 years after the first film and will shed more light on the characters, particularly the family's youngest child, Jack-Jack, and his wide range of superpowers.
"The Incredibles', which also featured the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter and Jason Lee, has already raked in a whopping total gross of $631.4 million at the global box office and bagged two Oscar awards, including best animated feature.
Meanwhile, Pixar's 3D production director Josh Hollander announced during the 3D Creative Summit in London that the team is working on the release of the first "Incredibles' movie in 3D.
"Right now we're working on The Incredibles, which is a lot of fun in 3D. I'm not sure what the release strategy for it will be. It's been an interesting challenge to work on technology because - while the film was released 10 years ago - the technology is even older as it took four years to make," Hollander explained.
With such announcement, rumors are also suggesting that the sequel may also be made available in 3D.
An official release date for "The Incredibles 2' has yet to be made.
