Fans of Oliver and Felicity have been looking forward to see how the couple's relationship will unfold in 'Arrow' season four after the pair finally got together in the finale of the third season.
As discussed by the show's executive producer, Marc Guggenheim, their relationship in the fourth season could be deemed as more "organic."
"The show is still the show," Guggenheim said to TVLine, stating that "body language" will become strong indicators of their relationship.
"Like, when Oliver and Felicity are together at her workstation, now he's got his hand on her shoulder," he shared as one example. "It's a difference of degrees. Basically, we're treating them like two co-workers who started dating."
The "Arrow' showrunner also opened up about the upcoming season having a lighter tone and becoming more fun as Felicity's (Emily Bett Rickards) optimistic personality will return in season four.
"The show got really, really dark last year, and I think she reacted accordingly," Guggenheim explained. "Certainly no one was more tired of the crying than Emily, but right behind Emily was the rest of us."
Nonetheless, fans can look forward to having a glimpse once more at the "strong, capable, funny Felicity... we know and love," the executive producer said.
However, "Arrow' season four will reportedly bring on a number of new issues for the couple and will put their relationship to the test as Oliver (Stephen Amell) returns to Starling City. Going back into the city could become the start of many obstacles to come that will supposedly put a strain on their relationship.
"We really wanted to explore the ups and downs of a traditional TV relationship, like we've established with Oliver and Felicity, and pretty much throw everything at it that we can and see if they'll make it through," executive producer Wendy Mericle told TV Guide.
Nonetheless, Guggenheim also clarified the approach that he and his team will be using to address the flashback scenes in the upcoming season. He also dropped hints that the "Arrow' team will draw more attention towards telling a "really amazing story in the past" as opposed to placing too much emphasis on the link between present and past.
Seemingly satisfied with this new approach, the showrunner said, "I feel like we have our best flashback story ever."
Actor John Barrowman, who takes on the role Malcolm Merlyn and now the new Ra's al Ghul, assured fans that the premiere episode of the fourth season will be intense.
"Bring your tissues, bring everything..." said Barrowman told TVLine. "It's one of those episodes where, when you're watching, you're gonna go, 'What?!?!'"
"Arrow' season four has been set to premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 7, on The CW.
