Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is one very busy and very ambitious guy. He already has his plate full of movies to produce and star in next year, and now he has added something else into his line-up - "Jungle Cruise."
As many people know, "Jungle Cruise" is a popular Disney theme park ride that has a retro adventure vibe. It transports park goers into a myriad of African settings such as the Nile River and Congo River, encountering rhinos and hippos and headhunters along the way. To add to the thrill, there's even an Amazon River section featuring piranhas.
The film's script would be written by "Focus" writers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, known for its work on "Man From U.N.C.L.E." will be producing the movie.
"Jungle Cruise" has long been in pre-development stage, and in 2011, the studio was actually considering Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to star in it, with Roger S.H. Schulman writing the script. It was supposed to be set during modern times, but this new version starring Johnson would take cue from the 1951 classic film "The African Queen" which starred Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn.
Johnson feels quite positive that making "Jungle Cruise" would be an enjoyable experience, given the experience he's had working with Disney in the past. "Disney production president Sean Bailey and Disney have been awesome partners and now the fun part begins," he shared. "We're starting to put in the work with Requa and Ficarra and our creative team. Fired up about this one. Here we go."
It's uncertain when Johnson will start working on "Jungle Cruise" though, given his jam-packed scheduled. He is currently busy working on the action comedy "Central Intelligence" for New Line Cinema, and will follow that up with "Baywatch," which he will star in together with "We Are Your Friends" star Zac Efron next year.
Not only that, but Johnson will also be working on a different New Line movie, the big screen adaptation of the video game "Rampage," and he also has commitments to the new "Fast & Furious" movie as well as "Shazam!"
Last but not the least, Johnson will be lending his voice to the Disney animated movie "Moana," which is a "mythic adventure set around 2000 years ago and across a series of islands in the South Pacific."
