Apple Releases WatchKit for the Apple Watch

Apple has introduced a toolkit called the WatchKit to enable software developers to generate new apps suitable for the Apple Watch.

The WatchKit will allow developers to create various ways of utilizing the smartwatch, Apple's first ever wearable, by focusing on its touchscreen display, watch crown and notifications.

With the use of the iOS operating system and the set of tools provided by the WatchKit, developers are expected to come up with distinct experiences for Apple's first ever wearable.

"WatchKit provides the incredible iOS developer community with the tools they need to create exciting new experiences right on your wrist," Philip Schiller, senior vice president for Apple's global marketing, stated.

Apple has put forward various suggestions for developers to generate unique apps, such as the use of Glances that will allow users to make an upward swipe on their watch to view brief recent updates on sports, travel, lifestyle and more.

Third-party app notifications are also expected to come up on the smartwatch. With developers using tools from the WatchKit, such notifications can allow users to make a response from the watch itself.

Interestingly, new apps to enable people to switch off the lights, monitor their alarm systems or keep track of their flight schedules show how the Apple Watch boasts distinct controls and activities.

Since the introduction of the iPad four years ago, the Apple Watch is the company's latest new product category. While the tech giant has already obtained considerable success when it comes to their phone, tablet and computer businesses, it has yet to establish a strong market when it comes to smartwatches. Other popular competitors, such as Samsung and Motorola, have already begun selling smartwatches and other wearable gadgets.

The Apple Watch will be made available in 2015 with a starting price of $349. It has been widely promoted for its numerous features and built-in apps, such as iTunes and Apple TV, Siri, Passbook and Apple Pay, among others.
