Apple Watch’s Companion App for the iPhone Revealed

With details of the Apple Watch being revealed in recent leaked photos, the "Companion App" has been recognized as the main software behind the performance and capabilities of the upcoming wearable device.

"Within Apple, the application is currently called the Apple Watch 'Companion' app for iPhone," Mark Gurman of 9to5mac explained. "This application manages settings for Apple Watch applications, as well as settings for iPhone/Watch interactivity."

Thanks to the companion app, a number of Apple Watch features will include display customization using a monogram as well as the rearrangement of apps within the homescreen.

With a possible launching in March, Apple is reportedly in the final stage of putting the last touches to the upcoming Watch. The tech giant has also made public a test version of the software that will be connecting the device to an iPhone.

As the iOS 8.2 is expected to be rolled out in just a few weeks, it has already been speculated to be incorporated into the Apple Watch.

The Watch and the iPhone will be linked through Bluetooth as well as an official app. As stated by Gurman, users can look into the Bluetooth Settings menu where they can find a panel for pairing the smartphone with the watch.

In the Bluetooth menu, instructions will indicate that Apple will roll out a special "Apple Watch' app that will enable users to set up and control the device.

With the "Apple Watch' app, other apps can be further downloaded onto the watch while its settings can be easily managed. Interestingly, the iPhone will be of great assistance to the watch by aiding it in preserving battery life.

Sources close to Apple and who are aware of the watch's development have claimed that the wearable is being prepared to be shipped within the U.S. before the end of March.

Additionally, Gurman also stated that employees working at Apple stores will undergo special training in February.

"One or two representatives from many Apple Stores in the United States, depending on store and market size, will be sent to Apple offices in either Cupertino, California or Austin, Texas to learn first-hand about the Watch," Gurman claimed.

Such training programs will reportedly be carried out from February 9th to 16th, with which the employees receiving the training will pass on their newly acquired skills and knowledge to other staff members in Apple stores.

Other features to expect from the watch include the ability to customize the watch face through tapping and swiping, voice recognition, heart-rate tracking and Siri, among others.
