Hewlett-Packard seeks to maintain the popularity of big Android tablets by introducing the new Pro Slate 12. With a large-screen display measuring 12.3 inches, the tablet can transform one's notes from traditional paper into digital form.
The Pro Slate 12 has been deemed as HP's first tablet that comes with a durable screen. Using Concore Glass technology from Corning, the glass incorporated into the screen can withstand the pressure when the tablet is dropped into rough surfaces, PC World reported.
The device also comes with a "Duet Pen" stylus which can be easily used for taking notes both on the tablet and on paper, hence a dual purpose.
The Pro Slate 12 is included on the list of tablets that were unveiled by HP last Monday, such as the Pro Slate and Pro Tablets with Android. The measurement of such devices varied from 8 to 12 inches, and have now been made available for shipping.
Coming with a price tag of $569, the Pro Slate 12 has already been receiving critique for its extra large size, considering the fact that most top-ranking and best-selling Android tablets measure between 7 to 10 inches.
It is then a must for HP to work towards introducing a complete, unique and effective lineup of tablets, especially with Samsung's Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 already being shipped.
This upcoming Pro Slate 12 from HP, nonetheless, reportedly packs in high-quality components as well as a display with a 1600 x 1200 pixel resolution. With Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor, the tablet also comes with 32GB of flash storage and 2GB of RAM. It also supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi networking.
The new tablet comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front snapper. Thanks to the integrated graphics from Qualcomm, high-definition video can be expected. Other components include a micro-SD slot and a micro-USB 2.0 port.
Aside from this 12-inch, 850-gram tablet, HP has also introduced the Pro Slate 8 that comes with a 7.9 inch display. With a starting price of $449, the tablet comes with a higher resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, The Verge revealed.
Similar to its 12-inch counterpart, the Pro Slate 8 comes with the Duet Pen stylus which will not be sold separately.
Meanwhile, other HP tablets that were recently announced do not come with such stylus technology, possibly due to the absence of a Qualcomm chipset.
