‘MLB 15: The Show’ Release Date, Features & Rumors: Baseball Video Game to Boast Gameplay Improvements

MLB Video Game

Sony Computer Entertainment revealed through a blog post new details for its professional baseball-themed game, "MLB 15: The Show."

According to the developer, the features of the game will vary according to Sony's various consoles.

For the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and the handheld console PS Vita, the game will feature year-to-year saves. This means gamers who have "MLB 14: The Show" will be able to save their progress and continue it in the game series' latest installment.

In addition, "MLB 15" for the three gaming platforms will allow players to control the direction of the ball after hitting it with the bat.

"Using the L-Stick, you can attempt to influence fly balls, ground balls, pushed hits, pulled hits or any of those in combination," Sony San Diego Studios' Community Manager Ramone Russell wrote in the blog.

Users of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PS Vita will also have the chance to unlock 30 special characters based on actual Major League Baseball athletes.

Of course, given the technical advantage of the next-generation console over the PS Vita and PlayStation 3, the game's PS4 version will feature added graphic quality. This includes skin tone realism for in-game characters, real-time shadow and sun movements, accurate rendering system and an improved lighting system for night games.

The PS4 version will also exclusively come with an additional 10 Minor League stadiums.

"MLB 15: The Show" is scheduled for release on March 31 of this year. The game will feature both single-player and online multiplayer modes.

In preparation for the launch, Sony will release gameplay footages from "MLB 15" on February through the live streaming gaming platform Twitch. Other details about the game are also expected to come in full swing next month.

"We're also excited to announce the worldwide game play reveal of 'MLB 15: The Show' on February 5th at 2:00PM pacific on Twitch," Russell wrote. "Tune in to the livestream via the San Diego Studio Twitch channel to get an exclusive look at 'MLB 15' and hear from our team on the features we're most excited about for 'MLB 15.'"
