‘Warcraft’ Film Adaptation Will be Like ‘Avatar’ in Terms of CGI, Says Director

Director Duncan Jones took to Twitter to update regarding his latest project, the film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment's popular video game franchise, "Warcraft."

According to the director, the film will showcase a combination of live-action and computer-generated imagery (CGI). Jones mentioned that the amount of CGI "Warcraft" will feature can be compared to the visual effects of some of Hollywood's big budget films.

"I would say that we fit somewhere between 'Planet of the Apes,' Fellowship of the Rings' and 'Avatar,'" he tweeted in response to a Twitter user's question.

For the CGI parts of the film, it was previously reported that the "Warcraft" production team has enlisted the expertise of Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). This visual effects company is famously known for working on George Lucas' award winning franchises such as the "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" movies, according to Game Spot.

The "Warcraft" film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on December of this year. However, Legendary Pictures, the production company behind the film, decided to delay its release and pushed it back to March 11, 2016.

Although the company did not provide an official explanation regarding the delay of the film, Legendary Pictures made the announcement immediately after Disney revealed that it will release "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens" on Dec. 18, 2015.

Aside from avoiding a competition against another big-title project, Joystiq pointed out that delaying "Warcraft" will give the production team enough time to work on the movie since filming only began in January of last year.

The movie adaptation of the video game series will center on the conflict between humans and orcs. At the same time, it will feature the internal struggles within the two factions.

The side of the humans will be led by Travis Fimmel. He will be joined by Dominic Cooper, Ben Foster, Ruth Negga and Ben Schnetzer. The side of the orcs, on the other hand, is composed of Toby Kebbel. Rob Kazinsky, Daniel Wu and Clancy Brown.

Paula Patton will also star in the film as a half-human half-orc who is caught in the middle of the two groups' conflicts.
