Sony Xperia E4 to Be Powered By KitKat? Website Says It Runs On Lollipop

Just several days ago, the Sony Xperia E4 was announced to the delight of Sony fans. However, a new report has put some confusion on potential buyers of the Android handset.

According to a report by Phone Arena, the new Xperia E4 was announced by Sony Developer World and stated that it is powered by last year's Android version, Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The Android version is not really an issue because the Sony smartphone is on the entry-level side of the spectrum.

However, the report pointed out that the Sony Xperia E4's official product page states that it runs the latest Android version, 5.0 Lollipop. Fans, consumers and prospective buyers are now confused which of the two sources is accurate.

Right now, everyone expects and hopes the device gets released with Android 5.0 Lollipop, though given the phone's specs, 4.4.4 KitKat is still possible.

Rumored over the last several weeks, the Xperia E4 is an entry-level handset that boasts a 5-inch display with qHD (960 x 540) resolution, a Mediatek MT6582 chipset, 1GB of RAM and a quad-core CPU clocked at 1.3Ghz. The phone finally made its debut earlier this week.

Other specs on board include a 5MP primary camera that has autofocus and digital image stabilization, 2MP front cam, 8GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot that can support up to 32GB of storage. The phone also supports the usual connectivity features such as proximity sensor, GPS and GLONASS.

The Xperia E4 is powered by a 2,300mAh battery.

While most people can argue that the Xperia E4 is not in itself a worthy upgrade over its predecessor, the main difference between the two is their respective designs. While the first Xperia E1 was simple with the usual Xperia look, the E4 boasts a brand new style and design.

While the 5-inch display is a welcomed treat, the real star of the show is the slimmer bezels for the top, bottom and sides. This does not only make the phone more compact, but its screen appears bigger than it really is.

As for the Android version where it will come out, the report mentioned that consumers and fans may have to wait until the end of the month when the Xperia E4 goes live in its target markets, especially countries in the EU.

In previous reports, the Xperia E4 will first be released in the UK, where it is already available on pre-orders.
