'Billion Brick Race' Team: Warner Bros. Hires Jason Segel, 'Iron Man 3' Writer to Helm New 'Lego' Spinoff Movie

Warner Bros. continues to expand its Lego franchise by helming another movie in addition to the three Lego films already scheduled for future release.

The studio has lined up actor Jason Segel and writer Drew Pearce, who worked on "Iron Man 3', to take on writing and directorial duties for the new Lego movie, titled "The Billion Brick Race.'

With the considerable success of last year's "The Lego Movie' raking in $469 million at the global box office, Warner Bros. will further be putting forward the sequels and spinoffs for the next few years.

"Billion Brick Race' would be added to the lineup of Lego-related movies that will be released or are currently in production; these include "Ninjago' in 2016, "The Lego Batman Movie' in 2017 and "The Lego Movie 2' in 2018.

Looking into the yearly movie release strategy, it has already been speculated that the new Lego film project will be rolled out by 2019. However, an official announcement for its release date is yet to be made.

The team members behind "The Lego Movie', such as Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Dan Lin and Roy Lee, have joined the production team for "Billion Brick Race'; however, plot details for the newest Lego movie have not been announced. The story, though, will revolve around the original idea that was developed by Pearce.

This upcoming movie would be Segel and Pearce's first time to venture into feature film directing. For Segel, he has already been involved in writing studio films, all of which have been comedy movies, such as "Forgetting Sarah Marshall' and "Sex Tape.' Having creative input in films, such as "The Muppets', may also aid the actor in generating favorable outcomes for the new Lego movie.

In contrast, Pearce is known for his involvement in action films, including the upcoming "Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation', which hits theaters on July 31. He is also currently working on Sony's upcoming "Ghostbusters' film.

For Segel, this opportunity can bring on significant changes to his career, especially after his last film release with Cameron Diaz underperformed at the box office.

However, Segel and Pearce are not the only individuals to have a directorial debut with a feature film such as a Lego movie. Director Rob Schrab will also make his feature film debut with the upcoming "Lego Movie' sequel.

With numerous experiences in TV comedy, Schrab has been known for directing episodes of "Community', "The Mindy Project,' and "The Sarah Silverman Program.'
