OnePlus One Specs: Oxygen OS Bound For 'Flagship Killer' Delayed Once More

Earlier this month, OnePlus made a promise in its forum to deliver its newest mobile platform, Oxygen OS, to OnePlus One owners by March 27. If it failed, it will give away five OnePlus One smartphones to anyone who commented on the thread.

Unfortunately for OnePlus, it missed the deadline to get Oxygen OS to the public. Fortunately, this spells good news for fans who want a free, high-end Android smartphone.

"There are extremely high chances that we are giving away these 5 out tomorrow," said by company officials on Reddit.

According to a report by TechnoBuffalo, the release of Oxygen OS, and CyanogenMod 12s for the OnePlus One will be delayed, based on a Reddit post by the manufacturer.

In the report, the Oxygen OS is allegedly already running internally within OnePlus, but that it has faced certification issues which led to the delay. Furthermore, while the operating system's development has been right on schedule, they did not expect a 'long certification process'.

This 'long certification process' involves the GApps according to a report by BGR India. Users suggested that the company roll out the update without the GApps, but that may not work as well.

For people who do not know, the latest Oxygen OS is OnePlus' very own take on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and has been seen as the replacement for CyanogenMod in the near future.

In a statement by OnePlus CEO Carl Pei, Oxygen OS is "close to pure Android, but it isn't. You'll be able to see it for yourself in a few days."

Currently, Cyanogen is still developing the CyanogenMod 12s for the OnePlus One, but not exclusively. Due to its deal with Indian phone maker, Micromax, the Android developer will also launch its latest update to the Yureka.

However, because OnePlus will not meet the said release date, it will be compelled to fulfill its promise to send out five free OnePlus One smartphones to anyone who has commented in the thread.

"To show you how serious we are about this commitment to our community, we are prepared to put our money where our mouth is. If we miss either one of these deadlines, we will give away five (5) 64GB OnePlus One devices to our fans,"  the company said in its own forum.

Meanwhile, the company also promised to deliver the CyanogenMod 12s update on a later date, March 30. However, with the way things are going, that release might be delayed as well.
