Danny Garcia scored a controversial win against Lamont Peterson on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. And this early, several fighters have already expressed interest in facing Garcia, including Marcos Maidana and Adrien Broner.
Maidana, the former World Boxing Association welterweight champion, said that he is willing to face Garcia. And if he gets the opportunity, the Argentine champion said that he will hand the former champion the first defeat of his career and nobody could save him from a clear loss.
Garcia, who improved to 30-0 with 17 knockout victories, escaped with a majority decision win against Peterson, but most analysts believe the latter should have been declared winner. Maidana said that he does not care who really won, and he is only interested in getting a shot against Garcia.
"I don't care who won tonight, but nobody will save Danny if we fight," Maidana said. "I'll give Danny the real welcome to the welterweight division. Let's do it."
Maidana, who has a 35-5 record with 31 knockout victories, is still looking for a fight against a big-name fighter despite absorbing two consecutive defeats to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year.
On the other hand, Broner also called out Garcia. The former three-division world champion challenged Garcia to a September showdown through a post on his official Instagram account. He said he is glad no one was hurt seriously on fight night, which gives him an opportunity to face Garcia five months from now.
"I'm happy nobody got severely hurt I got love for both fighters but Lamont is closer to me so I was going for him," Broner wrote on Instagram. "Now I got all that out the way this is my message to my friend my homie Danny Garcia heal up well and get back in the gym and fight me in September in Vegas."
Reacting to the challenge thrown by Broner, Garcia said that he is willing to go toe-to-toe with his stable mate, who is also under influential boxing adviser Al Haymon. However, Garcia laid out an important condition - the fight should take place in Philadelphia, his hometown.
"We do that next in Philly. Bring it to Philly," Garcia told BoxingScene.
Broner, who has racked up 30 victories and just one defeat in his career, is coming off a unanimous decision win against John Molina last month. His lone defeat came against Maidana during their WBA World welterweight title fight in December 2013 in San Antonio, Texas.
