After the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Joss Whedon's fans have noticed one sad thing: The director has put down his Twitter page.
Long before the blockbuster movie's release, Whedon has let on that he plans to take a break and get some much-deserved rest, then muster enough energy to do what he's really good at - creating.
Some people managed to get a hold of the director's last few tweets. Second to the last was a prayer which he cut short:
"Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
If I should die before I wake
'kay," he wrote.
His very last tweet was a message of thanks to all his fans. "Thank you to all the people who've been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here," he said.
Now, when people try to type down his username, nothing comes up in the search results, and it really looks like Whedon is finally taking his well-deserved vacation.
Marvel Cinematic Universe has already lined up two more Avengers movie in the next couple of years, and has even named it Avengers: Infinity War, which would be released in two parts. Whedon will reportedly not direct these movies anymore, and it's not because he does not want to.
He laughingly told Screen Rant that he would be up to it if only he "had the energy." But right now, he is most eager to write Peter Parker, better known as the web-slinging superhero Spider-Man.
"You know, everyone wants to write Spidey. None of their upcoming movies I don't want to make. The joy of the thing... it's probably why I'm good for the team movies because I get to make a little bit of everybody's movie; however, I would like to make a movie about just one person. I mean, like just one person in the whole movie," he said.
Despite his interest to be involved in Spider-Man's creative process though, the task has been given to his good friend Drew Goddard, who directed Cabin in the Woods, which starred Chris Hemsworth, who plays the demi-god Thor in the Avengers.
But Whedon said that he still meets up with Goddard for dinners and that they like discussing their projects, so his input might still be seen in the next Spider-Man movie, one way or another.
The Spider-Man reboot has been slated for a July 28, 2017 release while Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be shown on May 4, 2018. Part 2 will be on May 3, 2019.
