Playstation 4 fans will surely admire Toren - a new adventure game from Brazilian indie developer Swordtales which goes on sale on May 12.
Lance James, community director of indie game publisher Versus Evil, said in his post on the Playstation Blog,Toren is infused with "a uniquely colorful look and feel that draws on the traditional artwork and mythology of Brazil."
The game is about a female named Moonchild who is destined to climb the tower known as Toren. To do so, she sets out on a journey to fight monsters and solve puzzles to get to the top of the tower.
What's interesting about the game is that Moonchild starts out as child and players have to build her as she grows up. And this meant learning how to walk, interact with the environment as well as learn new abilities and powers.This is perhaps the strength of Toren as an adventure game.
One of the main opponents of Moonchild in Toren is the Dragon which serves as the guardian of the tower. However, the Magician, one of the tower's builder, communicates with Moonchild about stories and symbols connected to a lost civilization through visions and dreams.
For those who have played the game Ico, which came out in PlayStation 2 back in 2002, they might find Toren a bit similar since the game lacks a narrator. Players will get to focus on the silent environment and colorful artwork of the game.
Versus Evil worked side-by-side with Swordtales and the PlayStation Team in finishing Toren. The company is known for the release of the viking-themed tactical role-playing video game the Banner Saga in January of 2014. It was available in multiple platforms including including Android, iOS and PlayStation Vita.
"We're very proud to be working with PlayStation," James added, "and helping grow the video game culture of Brazil, as well as helping contribute to the PlayStation indie game culture."
James also announced that all PS Plus members who will purchase the game during the first week of the launch will get a 10% discount. Toren will go on retail at $9.99.
