"More Max to Come": George Miller Promises More Films Starting with 'Mad Max: The Wasteland'

"Mad Max' director George Miller has made a promise that more films are coming to the dystopian action movie franchise, providing details in the wake of a strong opening for "Mad Max: Fury Road.'

The 70-year-old director assured the fans of his franchise by taking to social media and writing in his first tweet: "Hello Twitter! Thanks for all the kind words written and said about the film. We had a lot of fun making it and there's more Max to come."

In a recent podcast with Jeff Goldsmith, Miller also let it slip that the fifth movie will come with the title "Mad Max: The Wasteland.' He made the following statement:

"We've got one screenplay [for the second film] and a novella [for the third]. It happened because with the delays [on 'Fury Road'], and writing all the backstories, they just expanded. [The second one] is called "The Wasteland.' "Mad Max: The Wasteland.'"

In addition, actor Tom Hardy opened up in an interview last month that he has committed to reprising his role for three more "Mad Max' movies.

"Everything's based on figures and how things are perceived. Inevitably it's a business," the 37-year-old actor said.

Hardy has taken the role of Max Rockatansky, previously played by Mel Gibson, while Charlize Theron portrays Furiosa in the movie, which has been set in a post-apocalyptic, brutal Australian Outback.

"Mad Max: Fury Road' is a sequel to the "Mad Max' trilogy, which was helmed by Gibson and Miller. The first three films included "Mad Max', "The Road Warrior' and "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.'

According to Miller, who began shooting "Fury Road' in 2012, he had already discussed his plans of filming two movies back-to-back with the second one titled "Mad Max: Furiosa.'

However, during that time, Warner Bros. did not confirm whether there will be more movies added to the franchise.

Whether or not "Furiosa' will be the new "Wasteland' film remains unclear, although there have been speculations that there will be a connection between the two.

Meanwhile, "Mad Max: Fury Road' has already raked in $45.4 million in the U.S. as well as an additional gross of $64 million in the international box office.

For its upcoming sequel "The Wasteland', no plot details have been revealed. Casting and release date are yet to be announced as well.
