Guillermo del Toro has gone public about his preference for "Game of Thrones' star Maisie Williams joining "Pacific Rim 2,' if the sequel is given the green light.
The director took to social media and tweeted his enthusiasm after meeting the 18-year-old actress, writing: "That girl is getting a Jaeger."
While Del Toro might be thrilled to work with Williams in the future, the indefinite plans between Universal and production company Legendary Pictures have halted work on 'Pacific Rim 2,' dereasing the chances of the project taking off.
The movie was supposed to start filming next month but the studio placed the production on hold. As pointed out by del Toro, it was necessary to have such delay in order for the team to re-work on the script as well as on its budget.
Screencrush previously reported that there have been speculations claiming that "Pacific Rim 2' might have experienced a delay because of the recent developments with Legendary's 'Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla,' with Kong shifting towards Warner Bros. to create a future Godzilla and Kong crossover.
On the other hand, ComicBook claimed that Universal, which holds the distribution rights for "Pacific Rim ,' has already removed the sequel from their schedule.
Nonetheless, del Toro recently pushed forward the idea that the movie is "not gone".
The director also previously opened up about setting the stage for the sequel, saying: "It's a few years after the first one. It's not an immediate follow-up. It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after - what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It's quite a jump."
Meanwhile, Williams is expected to make a guest appearance for two episodes in the new season of "Doctor Who' that will air this October.
The "Game of Thrones' actress is also set to star in the young adult zombie film "The Forest of Hands and Teeth.' She is currently in negotiations to take on the lead role in Kate Maberly's adaptation of the zombie story based on the horror novel of the same title by author Carrie Ryan.
In addition, Williams, who earned herself a Saturn Award this year under the category of Best Performance by a Younger Actor for playing Arya Stark on the HBO fantasy drama, will also appear opposite Jason Sudeikis and Jessica Biel in the indie drama "The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.'
As for "Game of Thrones' season six, it has been set to premiere in April 2016, although an official date is yet to be announced.
