Actress Sonequa Martin-Green is more than thrilled when the opportunity to discuss her son and her experience of motherhood arises.

"I just melt when you mention the fact that I'm a mother now," The Walking Dead star shared in an interview with Good Housekeeping in their November issue.

Martin-Green, who gave birth to Kenric Justin Green II with her spouse, actor Kenric Green, in January, explained how parenting has been both "profound" and "enlightening" for the couple, as well as how it strengthened their relationship as husband and wife.

"It's really been divine having someone come from you and being responsible for their livelihood, for nurturing them," said the 30-year-old actress, who plays Sasha on the AMC zombie drama. "My heart just melts as I speak about it and frankly I think words can't really describe it when I try. It's almost going to make me cry."

Martin-Green also shares how motherhood, time and again, can also be an inexpressible experience. With her role as Kenric's provider, the Alabama native now understands her own mother's love and affection.

"She would always tell us how much she loved us and how she would be willing to do anything for us, and every now and then she would say, "You'll get it one day,' " the actress shared.

In 2012, the actress initially auditioned for the role of Michonne. However, when Danai Gurira, who Martin-Green described as "the perfect choice", had been chosen for the role, former showrunner Glen Mazzara still preferred for Martin-Green to remain a part of the critically acclaimed series, giving her a role created specifically for her.

"It's very rare and I'm still quite dumbfounded about it but Glen and I hit it off and I still appreciate him. He wanted to work with me and wrote Sasha for me," Martin-Green explained.

The actress was pregnant during the filming of "The Walking Dead' season five, which she had to cover up using thick layers and large guns.

Now, after surviving the zombie apocalypse and overcoming her personal demons, her character Sasha is set to correct her wrongs and to avoid living "like a psychopath." After realizing how irate and unnatural her behaviors have been, Tyrese's sister begins to realize the need to lift the veil and to live life similar to that of her fellow survivors.

"I've seen the light, if you will. And I'm ready to honor Tyreese and honor Bob and serve this community," the mother-of-one assures "The Walking Dead' viewers.
